Hiking suggestions in Obereggen – Experience nature at its purest

Obereggen offers numerous opportunities to discover the Dolomites in summer:

The Latemar . Alpine pasture theme trail 
(Easy/Medium)

An interactive themed trail dedicated to alpine farming and the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The trail is well signposted and crosses the area below the Latemar.

Starting point: Zischgalm mountain hut (2,000 m).


  • Follow trail no. 9 downhill towards the village of Obereggen/Ochsenweide valley station.
  • Shortly before the Epircher Laner Alm, you will find the entrance to the Latemar.Alp circular trail, marked by signs. Follow the specific signs and educational stations.
  • The trail will take you around the alpine area. At the end of the trail, return to the Zischgalm mountain hut following the same trail no. 9.



Duration and distance: approx. 2 hours, 6-7 km, approx. 160 metres of elevation gain.

Panoramic tour to the Oberholz mountain hut
(Medium)

A picturesque panoramic hike with fantastic views of the Latemar wall and the modern Oberholz mountain hut (2,096 m).

Departure: Zischgalm mountain hut (2,000 m).


  • Follow trail no. 504 (also marked as trail 22 on some maps) eastwards, climbing through the forest and then across open terrain towards the Oberholz mountain hut.
  • At the Oberholz mountain hut, you can enjoy the “mountain cinema” and the panoramic view.
  • The return journey is along the wider trail no. 9 (Eggentaler Almenweg), which leads downhill to the Epircher Laner Alm and then to the Zischgalm.


Duration and distance: approx. 2.5 - 3 hours, 7 km, approx. 250 metres of elevation gain.

To the Torre di Pisa mountain hut
(Medium/Difficult - round trip)

The alpine challenge on this list. The tour leads to the mountain hut with its characteristic ‘leaning tower’ at 2,672 m. Sure-footedness and good physical condition are required.

Starting point: Zischgalm (2,000 m).


  • Follow trail no. 504 (Sentiero) directly from the Zischgalm or from the Feudo Pass.
  • The trail is challenging, steep and leads through rocky terrain to the refuge.


Destination: Torre di Pisa refuge (2,672 m).

The return journey follows the same trail no. 504 back to the Zischgalm.


Duration and distance: approx. 4-5 hours (total), 8-9 km, approx. 730 metres of ascent and descent.
