The Zischgalm – the ideal starting point for mountain bikers in Obereggen
Our mountain hut is centrally located at the Pampeago/Reiterjoch Pass and is the perfect starting point for mountain bike tours in the Dolomites.
The Latemar Ronda
(The classic)
This is the most famous tour of the Latemar massif and is considered an absolute classic in Val d'Ega and Val di Fiemme. The tour offers breathtaking views and varied landscapes. It is classified as medium-difficult, but can be simplified by using the lifts (it is often recommended to ride it clockwise to shorten the climbs).
Difficulty level: medium-difficult (depending on the use of ski lifts and physical condition).
Route description:
Start: Zischgalm (approx. 2,000 m).
- Initially, descend along the asphalt road (trail no. 9) towards the Obereggen valley station. From Obereggen, follow the signs for MTB (often no. 23, 8 or 519) towards Lake Carezza and then continue towards Passo Costalunga.
- From Passo Costalunga, continue towards Moena (Val di Fassa).
- From Moena, follow the cycle path along the Avisio stream to Predazzo.
- In Predazzo, take the Predazzo-Gardonè cable car and then the Gardonè-Passo Feudo chairlift (the Zischgalm mountain hut is located directly on Passo Feudo/Passo Pampeago).
Destination: Zischgalm mountain hut (right next to the Passo Feudo mountain station).
Duration and distance: approx. 5 hours of cycling (with the aid of the cable cars), 37-40 km, approx. 350-450 m of elevation gain (if using the cable cars, otherwise over 1,500 m).
Panoramic tour of the Obereggen mountain huts and return
(Easy-medium)
A shorter, more relaxing tour that focuses on the mountain huts located directly below the Latemar. It is ideal for a half-day tour or for cyclists who prefer less technically demanding but scenically fascinating routes (wide dirt tracks and forest roads).
Difficulty level: easy-medium.
Route description:
Departure: Zischgalm mountain hut (1,940 m).
- Follow trail no. 9 downhill, past the Ganischgeralm and Epircher Laner Alm mountain huts to the Obereggen valley station.
- From there, you can take a short detour on the lower forest trails of the Latemar.Natura or Latemar.Alp themed trails.
- Return to the Zischgalm mountain hut via trail no. 9 uphill (steady climb on good terrain) or take the Ochsenweide chairlift to save yourself the climb.
Destination: Zischgalm mountain hut.
Duration and distance: approx. 1.5 - 2 hours, 10-12 km, approx. 350 m elevation gain.
To the Oberholz mountain hut and Monte Cornon Panorama
(Medium)
A moderately difficult tour that takes you closer to the steep cliffs of the Latemar. It combines forest trails with some more challenging climbs and offers breathtaking views from the Monte Cornon area.
Level of difficulty: medium.
Route description:
Departure: Zischgalm mountain hut (1,940 m).
- Follow trail no. 504 (partly identical to no. 22) towards the Oberholz mountain hut and Passo Feudo (the mountain hut is located at 2,096 m). The trail climbs and becomes rockier.
- After passing the Oberholz mountain hut, you can take a detour to Monte Cornon (viewpoint).
- The return journey is along trail no. 9, a scenic route that leads back to the Zischgalm mountain hut.
Duration and distance: approx. 2.5 hours, 8-10 km, approx. 300-400 m elevation gain.
